A Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) belongs to the selected C-level of a company. This consists of the chief executive officer (CEO) and other executives who are outstanding in their field. 
A CSO has the task of taking a leading role in research processes. This position can be found in a university hospital, a pharmaceutical company or a health insurance company. 
He or she works both conceptually on future projects and preemptively in overseeing individual research and development (R&D) task areas.
